Dr. Konkel received her medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. During this time, she was selected by the United States Air Force for the Health Professions Scholarship Program. She completed her internship in General Surgery, followed by her residency in Ophthalmology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion, she was transferred to MacDill Air Force Base, where she served as the Chief of Ophthalmology. During this time, she became the military leader in refractive cataract surgery and was recognized as a Top 1% Physician in the Department of Defense as a “Best of the Best” Surgeon.
Dr. Konkel is experienced in bladeless laser cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, ocular surface disease including pterygium removal, and blepharoplasty. She has treated many patients in Florida for their comprehensive ophthalmic needs including dry eye disease, cataracts, glaucoma, and visually significant dermatochalasis.
As a recent transplant to Sarasota, Dr. Konkel is excited to involve herself in the local community. Her interests include improving local parks and developing green initiatives that enhance and sustain the natural beauty of Southwest Florida.
Dr. Konkel is married to Brandon and they have three beautiful children. Her hobbies include gardening, cycling, and bird watching.
